Spreading the Word of Discent – Round 2

It’s been an exciting two months since Seeds of Discent debuted. The release was amazing, getting into sales venues has been exciting and taking two weeks to tour with Hoots and Hellmouth was one of the best “work’ trips I have been on in a long time. But as the lazy days of summer set in, book sales have become a little slow. So it’s about time to get back out there and go for another round of promotion.

This summer I will be looking for more venues to sell and am putting together a few more mini tours. I’ll be heading out to Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania at the end of July, and I will hopefully be booking a tour to New England for the end of August and a tour to the West Coast by the end of September. Dates and venues are only tentatively being booked right now, so any suggestions are more than welcomed.

But while I wait for that, I can’t describe how rewarding it has been to receive messages from people who have finished the book to offer their thoughts and impressions. I welcome any comment, good or bad, so please don’t hesitate to write if you have something to share. And please keep a look out on this website for the dates of the tour as they come together.

Hitting the Road With the Book

For the past week I’ve been on the road with the band Hoots and Hellmouth. We just wrapped up a rocking few days at the Wakarusa music festival in the Ozark Mountains and are now going to be stopping at farms along our way back home. We’ll be at farms outside of Nashville TN, Louisville KY and we’re even dropping in on some folks in the Cincinnati urban farming scene.

I know an author traveling with a band is not the most conventional mix, but we try not to do things conventional. It did take a decent amount of explaining at Wakarusa when people asked if I was with the band. It’s not everyday that a writer gets the chance to hang out with some great musicians and be able to preach the gospel of sustainability and good local living. But after I explained our scheme, they definitely got it. Basically we’ll be stopping in the homes of these farmers and putting on a live show full of music, story telling, good food and community connections. So keep reading this blog as the stories from the road come to life.

Until then,
Nic
